Reviews of “The Vanishers”

Here’s what people are saying about James’ novel “The Vanishers”, verbatim from their Amazon purchasing pages:

5.0 out of 5 stars Guns! Romance! Great Scenery! And a fine story! February 27, 2013

“A thriller needs exciting characters, an exciting premise, and an exciting locale. Ullrich provides plenty of all three, as well as a sharply honed skill for description. His action and romantic scenes are carefully set in places so well described the reader is fully involved in a sense of place. Combine that with compelling characters and headlong, tense action and you have a novel with sure-fire reader involvement. The dialogue is brisk, the secondary characters are colorful and useful to the advancement of the story, and the pace is unrelenting. All in all, a very satisfactory read at a time when too many so-called thrillers are simple platforms to display the newest technical toy. Ullrich is interested in the technological details of the present, of course, but his characters are driven by the ancient, fundamental emotions that compel our determination to find out what they do next. Don’t miss this one – or those that are sure to follow.”

4.0 out of 5 stars An exciting read February 24, 2013

“This book was given to me free to review. I normally like fast-paced action and intrigue, and this did not disappoint. There was enough international intrigue and an unusual “Columbo” style detective to keep it interesting, and the twists and turns kept me up late at night reading. The exotic locations mentioned are also a treat, whether you’re imagining them or reliving the experience of having been there yourself. I also liked the way it ended.

I would definitely read more from this author.”

“This is the second book I have read by James Ulrich, and it is easily my favorite. I really liked character development, and the plot keeps you guessing! This thriller was exciting the entire way through. It was so easy to get involved in the story line and forget about everything else around you.”

“This is my first read by this author and love his writing. His writing was very smooth and enjoyable. Sometimes tht transistion broke when the missing words or letter were gone, but soon came to realize I could catch on. Other than that, this book took me places that I could let my imagination be there. Without giving away too much on this book, The Vanishers were an underground team that work very precise and best team work ever. When the new Inspector came in the the story line to capture The Vanishers, his thoughts and logics were very intriguing. I received this book as a free download to my Kindle Fire for review and am excited to read another book by this author.”

“I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I am glad I did. What a great read. The characters were strong very likable and well presented. The story invigorating, kept me guessing to the last possible moment. I would gladly welcome the sequel James Ullrich that the story open for. This work would make a great movie lots of action and intrigue, explosions and love interests. A book where the criminals are the good guys and most of the law enforcement are not. A great jaunt around Europe with the next twist coming when you least expect it and from the most unexpected sources. Again a great read I would gladly of paid for.”

A complimentary copy of this book was sent for me to review on my kindle.
The Vanishers really do live up to their name as after each burglary they disappear leaving no trace behind them of their activities. They are a mixed bunch of people from different countries, all having their own unique skills. As they are thinking of maybe giving up something happens, which forces them to do one more even though it is against their wills, a lever is used to make this happen. An Italian Inspecter from Interpol is also on their trail trying to trace them. Plus a third party becomes involved. A well written story with strong characters and a good plot that works. The story is full of complexities and with all the twists and turns keeps you guessing. A great thriller.

“What a great read!! This book held my interest from beginning to end with never a dull moment. The story line and the plot seem very original while the action makes you feel you are experiencing the whole thing along with the characters. And the characters themselves really come to life. I felt that I knew each one of them. There are lots of twists and turns and clever surprises. I think this book would make a hit movie. I hated to see it end but now I am looking forward to reading the next book by this author.”
